Hey guy's I just put in a new gimble bearing in my 91 3.0L alpha one. So I've installed the bearing and the shaft went through the bearing and into the engine coupler but for some reason I can't get the whole outdrive on. If the shaft goes into the engine then job done right? My shifter cable is where it should be and the shifter linkage is where it should be, yet the drive sticks out by about 2 inches, and isn't fully seated. Any thoughts? thanks

Re: outdrive alignment

Are you sure the alignment bar went all the way in the coupler?
Put a thick layer of spline grease on the alignment bar, then push it straight in as far as it will go. Then pull it straight back out. (You should be able to do this with 2 fingers on the bar)
There better be stripes in the grease for at least 2 inches from the end of the bar. And, they should be equally spaced and all the way around the bar.
