I've got my drive back together and would like to pressure test to confirm all is well. I'm assuming most of the testing equipment is homemade, so what seems to be the favored method/design? I have a compressor and/or a bike pump, as I've heard of both being used. I'm currently away from home, but would appreciate any and all ideas concerning the design and procedure(time and holding pressure)

Thanks in advance...

Re: Outdrive pressure testing

I recently had good results with pressure testing an Alpha one using a modified hose setup radiator pressure tester.

The tester had 1/8npt threads. A 3/8 hose fit well over a brass nipple screwed into the tester. For the drive end which is 3/8 16 bolt thread I used aa 3/8 bolt with a hole drilled through the center and a nut & fiber washer to seal it to the drive. ( I had to grind the not round )

If you have access to a drill press the bolt can be placed in the chuck and the bit squarely in the vise. The bit self centers itself as it cuts through the bolt. ( Poor mans lathe )

This was time well spent as I found a leak after servicing that would have probably ruined the drive in short order if not resolved.
