Hopefully you stopped when you arrived at your destination, which means the boat dropped off plane and the whole drive was submerged until you got around to putting your hand on it. Wouldn't have made any difference in temp at that point whether you had an outdrive cooler or not.
Rainbow bridge is about a mile off the main channel of Powell and its pretty narrow so you have to slow down quite a bit but you can still be on plane, so yes I am sure it cooled down but after that run I would have slowed anyway to cool everything down. My point is that I was amazed at how much cooler the upper was and I don't have any deposit buildup on my drive since I installed my shower.
