Outlook express question

Occassionally I receive forwarded emails from people that make me have to open the attachments successive times to get to the root message. This email will have an attachment that opens up a .eml file. Once done, another email page appears with another .eml attachment, etc, etc, til you get to the original message.( I suppose from the originator of the email)

In the latest case, my friend said he just 'forwarded' it as he received it and that when he opened his, it was just all there, but I had to open 3 successive email pages to get to it.

The other thing I noticed is that when I 'reply' to a message with any attachment, the attachment is not carried to the 'reply' form. It does transfer over if I hit 'forward' (except for these .eml attachments) but then of course the 'to' line is not automatically populated.

What is going on?

Re: Outlook express question

Wiseone it sounds like some of those emails may have a worm embedded in them. I read this about elm extensions awhile back. Hope this helps

The EML file type is primarily associated with 'Outlook Express' by Microsoft Corporation.

Note: .EML files are used by other E-mail clients as well.

Note: .EML files with "funny" names in multiple folders implies the Nimda worm.

OE removes access to attachments using this file extension. However, using forward on the tool bar in OE the attachment shows as an envelope that if clicked opens the attachment (use caution if you do this, it could be a worm). Others have reported that importing the message into Outlook from Outlook Express works to make the attachment files visible.

Note: This file type can become infected and should be carefully scanned if someone sends you a file with this extension.

Re: Outlook express question

I'm having some e-mails forwarded by some of my friends. there is no message per say in the text but a link. NEVER open these. Like Cofe said could be a mail worm. the senders e-mail may not even be the source as his buddy has HIS email address and using that as a way to get to yours. if the attachment requires you to open a second time i delete it.

This very second i just got another one from him. same thing.
Wish they would just leave us alone.

He knows now and is taking steps to repair. just told him it might not be his computer and to check with others on his list.

The second concern re: reply vs forward, have you always used a microsoft e-mail program? I've never used anything but MS and that has always been the case with their products. I guess the theory is that you probably don't need to send the attachment back to the original sender.

Re: the layering of attachments. I find that as annoying as you do, but haven't found a work around yet.
