Re: Outriggers

So no one on here uses outriggers? Maybe I should have posted this on the saltwater fishing board?

Mods: Can you move this to the saltwater fishing board?

Re: Outriggers

I have a set simulat to the Sea Choice ones and they work fine for slow trolling for stripers on by boat (18 foot Sea Pro CC ). If you have room to manuver the boat they are great. Not so good in small/narrow coves. They also rotate from straight us with the sides of the boat when not in use to out over the water when fishing. They were on the boat when I bought it, but so far they have been problem free.

Re: Outriggers

I've got 18' Lee's outriggers on my boat. Outriggers are one of things that if you cheap out on now sooner or later your going to regret it.

It sounds like CRb 478 has had some luck with fiberglass poles but nobody else I know has. They bow too much and can act like slingshots if pulling big baits in heavy seas.

For Striper fishing I switched over to the big, 3 board planer boards and never looked back. The boards are eaier to deal with and you can run more rods off them by just making your planer lines longer.

I'm running 100 ft. planer lines and run 4 rods off each board. Couple those with the 2 rods off the transon, 2 off the gunwales and 2 off the roof you get a pretty decent spread running behind the boat :D

Re: Outriggers

Thanks for the replys. I do use planer boards. Most of the time they work well for the type of trolling I do. I'm just interested in trying outriggers. I think they would work out well for me. It sounds like the fiberglass poles aren't what I'm looking for. Most of the baits I troll are well over 4oz and pull like a 3Lb largemouth.
