Re: Over Heating Problem

When I had "mystery overheating" issues last year, the culprit was air gap(s) in the lower unit. The cooling on muffs was great (due to the pressure from the hose), but nonexistent in the water. I had the lower unit resealed and that solved the issues - she runs as cool as a spring morning now.

Good luck.

Re: Over Heating Problem

With a Cobra, the pump is higher up on the drive making it a little harder to prime.

You need to use a flush adapter or put the boat in the water.

Well Rick you were correct, I used th flush adapter and it worked fine. The impeller is doing it's thing.

My next move was to reseal the lower unit as just posted. But not yet. Thank you all for your help, now all we need is some good weather here in Savannah, sooo much rain. Thanks again, Jack

Re: Over Heating Problem

As they say Admiral, there be Whales here... Just watched Star Trac, lol. Better days are coming, hope you get some Summer soon.

Thanks for all your help, and thanks for helping so many people with their problems. many of us in this day and age just can't afford to bring it to a pro, and you and many others on this site make it possible for us to get back on the water. Floating around, throwing a hook in the water or just buring up those gallons of gas, that's what us boat people are all about. helping one another to get back out there. Jack...

Re: Over Heating Problem

You were right, when I put it in the water, the impeller did not due it's job. next is to seal the lower unit, the the right. But I wanted to use it this summer, so I installed a water pump between the hose coming out of the outdrive and the oil cooler. It pulls the water from the lower unit to the engine and it works and keeps the engine cool. I will take a pic and post it soon. Thanks

Once under way, the copper transfer tube is not submerged. This will rusult in air being sucked in. Anyway, the pump you installed better be a big one.
