Re: overcharging??????

It will probably level out to around 15 volts or a little less once the battery is fully charged.
I have a digital volt meter on mine and have seen it hit 16 volts at WOT but it drops back down after it runs for a little while.

Re: overcharging??????

Good, bad or otherwise, 16 volts is common on an unregulated system. Actually, putting it in perspective, that's only about 1.5 volts higher than a regulated one.

I had that same issue on my '96 112 SPL. Put a 12 amp regulated regulator on it. Costs like $30 and back to 14.5v. Mine was going upwards of 18v and reeking havoc with my electronics.

Make sure your battery is good. I had the same problem and I changed the battery and now it doesn't go above 14.2V even after a 30 minute ride. I guess bad batteries will overcharge.
