overheat question

351 windsor temp gauge shoots up over 200 at idle (sometimes) and cools back down as give it gas. I ordered new impeller and thermostat to be here tomorrow. Ive only had the boat for about a month, and im not familiar with workin with these engines. Im going to do the job myself is there anything I need to know or pay extra attention to while doing this?

1991 Pleasure Craft the boat is a ski brendella so no outdrive...

Ayuh,....

It sounds like the Impeller is Toast...

When you change it,... Back-flush the sysem to remove the lost pieces....

well the weird thing is when i fisrt start the boat the temp will stay down but if i turn it off for maybe 5 minutes then restart it cant cool itself back down at idle tell i take off then it cools again
