Overheat sensor 70 hp Ev.

So I picked up a service manuel. Alarm goes off even when outboard isnt running, when key is in aux possition. Unhooked the one tan wire at the scissor style connection still sounds?? Where do I locate these sensor wires for overheat? Need help narrowing this down?? E70ELCNB

sounds like your horn is bad or you have a bad wire.

the tan wire is ground. the sensor grounds the wire at high temp.

those lil horns are about $60 but you can wire in a car horn if you want to go cheap.

have you had the remote control apart by chance?

I've been wondering if you can just replace that thing with an acutal heat/temp gage like in a car? So you can see what the actual temp is.

Have taken the remote control off and peeked in the back after removing the caps. looks new. I will pop it open in the morning, any springs or suprises i should be warned about??

no surprises.......... unless someone has booby trapped it.....ive seen it done when boats where being stolen a lot.

i can tell you on mine it comes apart a whole lot easier with the fast throttle lever up about half way or so.

other than that make sure all the lil guides go back in the same slots they came out of.

i left the little plastic spacer out of mine by accident one time................. it worked perfect at home. i guess the trip to the lake jarred it just enough and it touched. as soon as i turned on the key ,sittin in the water ,the dang thing went off. but i have heard of the just going out.

to test the horn you simply ground the tan wire going to the head............if its just blowing constantly you have a bad spot in the tan wire somewhere or your horn is bad.....since you already ruled out the sensor.

OK so I unhooked the tan wire at the scissor conection and grounded to a bolt on the motor, alarm still sounding. Popped open the remote control and everything looks fine. I pulled out the alarm, i will try and have it tested somewhere. I have attached some photos maybe will help explain what I am looking at. thanks

your on the right track.

do you have a multi-meter?

if so i would test the tan wire for continuity to see if it is broken somewhere.

then if it doesnt show its broken then touch one end to the wire and the other lead to a ground on the motor and the control box...........then i would do the other end of the wire................. this should help tell you id the wire is grounding somewhere,

the purple wires are hot and the tan is ground...so if your horn is going off as soon as you have power then your horn or wire is bad.

i think there are test procedures in the frequently asked questions for the horn but i cant remember......its been too long since ive read through them.

like i said though those lil boogers are pricey and a car horn will work............ of course you will have to find a place to hide it since nobody wants a horn hangin fron their remote .... lol.

I tested the horn by taking it out and grounded it (black wire) power (purple wire) and it still went off without grounding the Tan wire which is what the temp sensor does to set it off. I have to say the horn is toast! I am a little worried that it did warm up a little. I have run it for about 30 sec or so about three times. The port side does get a little to warm to keep my hand on it constantly. Now I'm stressed about that! I dont want to damage it??

you should be able to hook it to muffs or put ti in the drink, start it , and after it has warmed up you should be able to hold your hand on the heads for at least 3-4 seconds without being burned.

your thermostats open around 140deg give or take a few deg.

looks like that lil guy is $73.88 ........... but its cheaper than a new engine.

thats why i said you might think about a car horn
