Overheat warning on OX 66

I have a 1998 250hp OX66. <br />Water pump impeller changed this past spring, low hours all season (50-75 hrs)in saltwater.<br />Boat is moored, no fresh water engine rinse until hauled out.<br />No problems all season, or ever, for that matter.<br />When hauling for the season, everything ran fine.<br />Put boat on the trailer, and drove home (2 miles).<br />Put on the muffs for a fresh rinse, and for the very first time, an overheat alarm.<br />I assume the impeller is fine with so few hours.<br /><br />She's all "winterized" and wrapped. Early next spring where do I start? <br /><br />Thermostats? <br />Poppet valve? (whatever that is...)<br />Should it have been thoroughly rinsed with "salt away"?<br />Your thoughts/experiences/opinions would be most appreciated.<br />Thanks.

Sometimes the water pressure from the hose is not great eniough to run at idle. It is time to service the thermostats and poppet vale this spring.

I agree with Ray. THose hose flushers are often not enough water flow and pressure for those big block Yamaha's.<br /><br />I run my 250hp Yamaha in a big barrel.

i would also pull the gearbox for a check. impellors dont like barnacles and moored in salt all season in itself is enough to warrant removal, so that in the future it CAN be removed.
