I overheated, no alarm, or warning. Water from two cyliners top and bottom. Compression test showed no compression on top and 120 on middle and bottom.

Look at the photo, see A... scoring from head gasket blowing, and B... a very small gap between the sleeve and the block.

Will these issues hinder the engine? Can I put new gasket on to check block? Why would I see water in the bottom cylinder but no visible gasket damage there.

Why no warning, or alarm?

I think,

overheats,
head gasket blows,
water migrates to bottom cylinder via crankcase.

I'd get oil on the crank bearings asap.
then look for original cause.

The sleeve separating from the block is not good. That means the sleeve is not supported at that point. I had a 35hp do the same thing - the cylinder was out of round by nearly .050". I'm thinking this motor is done. You'd have to find another block or a shortblock (graveyard, eBay, etc.) to get it going again.

More than likely, the water migrated via the exhaust manifold.

How do I do this? Doesn't oil get injected through the vro system?

OK, I tore into the engine myself. Looks like all it is was the head gasket. I will rebuild the water pump system as well. It probably had weeds around the intake since I was fishing Orange Lake in FL... very weedy there.

How probable is it that an aluminum block would crack anyway? I could see if it were cast that it would crack, but doesn't aluminum warp?
