defintely not saying that the carbon ISNT causing the over heat...just that it wasnt the issue with mine...

i ordered and installed new T-stat seats a few months ago on my V4...

do they automatically sell the upgraded seats

i notice that the t-stats they sell for my motor and the ones in the pictures in the manual do not look like each other!!!!!

here is what my pistons looked like"

and here is the head"

HEEBEHA: i mentioned in an earlier post that i rebuilt my lower port carb and I clean and reamed the HS jets in all my carbs...and most of my over heat issues were solved...

so i think my overheat issue was caused by a lean port condition, caused by at least one carb..maybe both port carbs

it wasnt a HUGE over heat problem...but i want to solve it none the less.

I took ther head back off, cleaned it up good and tore out the old thermostat seats. Big problem. The new seats are too big. I tried grinding down one of them but it wound up being to thick too. Dangit. I need to start this thing up within 15 hours. I flooded it with Evinrude Engine Tuner and poured Muriatic acid in the head for 5 minutes then flushed it all out, A local marine mechnic told me it was the best fix for any clogs. Seamed to work but I wont know till I run her again aftre the Engine tuner burns off tomorrow.

Anybody have a recommendation for these seats. Are these the wrong ones or do I have to press them in maybe. I tried pressing them with my vice but it only ripped them.

it says right on the seat

"TO THERMO STAT"

and no way that side is going into the counter bore first!!!!!!!!

you have to have the wrong ones...

the ones I bought looked just like the ones i took out!!!!

i would think you need

part #335981

http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/brp/B-0335981.html

thats what i bought and they matched what came out..

the trick you need to be carefull of with these seals, is if you cut the head at all, you will have to push the seal bore depth down as well....!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took off both heads, flushed them with muratic acid, changed both t-stat oem seats, sealed the heads properly, flushed the system with evinrude special cleaner, let her bath in it overnight, she is running cooler and smoother.

But she needs new rings and pistons so she won't be perfect but should be good till the winter then I'll rebuild her

Forgot to mention, I removed all the carbon buildup from the pistons as well, there was a lot
