Overheating or not ??

Hi all I just had this happen for the first time today. First off I have a bayliner Capri with a 89 force 50 on it and I replaced the pump and I put in a temp gauge and fixed the old buzzer and never had a problem until today. Now I know the water and the temp outside is much hotter out but after running the boat across the lake and I shut it off to fish I now have the buzzer going off and the temp gauge up to like 170+- then I start the engine and let it run till the water comes out the pee holes and the temp gos down and the buzzer stops after a min or two. Is this ok or do I need to dig deeper. Thanks

Did you happen to run through and kick up alot of sand or silt that could have gotten sucked into the pump?.
If the problem arose after you changed the impeller there is a chance the pickup tube is not properly inserted into the the water pump housing or another closely related issue is present but from what you've described it also sounds like it may be your thermostat If the engine cools down after 1 minute or so, you can try removing it (thermostat) and placing it in a pot of boiling water on the stove with a high temp thermometer and record the temp it begins to open at (if at all) and find out if it is your culprit. I'm not certain but i believe it should open at 130 degrees. How long does it take for the water to exit the pee holes? model and serial number would also be helpful.

Its a force 50 1989 #507x9a and it runns cool as a cucummber buut when i shut it off it seems like it continues to heat up and when I restart the buzzer gos off just till the water come out then it drops in temp and buzzer stops but why is it heating up so much when its off.

I cannot think of any reason a powerhead would continue to increase in temp when not running as there is no friction being created by the running engine. Sorry Dan but this is over my head. Try a PM to one or both Frank Acampora and Jerryjerry05 for a quicker response.

This MIGHT be the problem??
You intalled a pee tube and it's probably letting air back into the head?
The sender will make it buzz after 130d. The water drains down and the heat goes up and makes it sound off?
The thermostat, pull it and see if it's opening and closing right.
Test the thermo switch and see if it operating right. You'll need a stove and a test meter.
Or maybe the impeller isn't installed right, or it's shot? New can go bad quick?
Instlled an impeller on a 200Yam. 2 months ago. It worked great until a week ago.
Pulled it yesterday and it came out in 4 BIG pieces.

Not getting water quick enuff, or well enuff. Pop the lower unit off again and recheck everything. Was the whole impeller housing assy changed, or just the impeller? The housing wears too and at some point cuts grooves which causes the impeller to break suction. Otherwise blockages in the plumbing either in the lines or in the head.

Take the cover off and on the flush ears, pop off the white tube coming straight up and out on top of the motor. Crank it up and see how well water shoots up into the air like a rooster tail. May also help blow any crud or debris out.
