Overnights in marina

Hello everybody.
I just wonder how many of you guys keep your boats in marinas and stay on the boat for overnight, or few nights.
How do you deal with noises. I know that descent marinas have a quiet time after 11:00 pm in their rules. So does ours. But there is always a yahoo who gets drunk and yells at his wife/gilfriend/ boyfriend ets. in the middle of the night. Or somebody who desides that he is the only one there and keeps his party going well into the morning hours with the music and loud voices.
Or like in my case list night. A bunch of yahoos that docked across the channel from me (about 50') were running their onboard generator all night (the exhaust of which was facing towards me)
Some of you may ask - what is the big deal? The big deal was that they staying in the dock with shorpower and water hook up.
So what do you guys do - file the complaint to the marina office, talk to offenders first, or..?

We anchor out, away from the general public. Its very quiet. my kids watch dvd's till they fall asleep, I fish off the swip platform (a loungechair fits with ease!) till I get tired. we're usually woken up by early morning skiers around 6am. (It gets light VERY early in Arizona!)

Interesting question.

There are two hundred boats at my marina with most of them being ones that sit at the dock while the owners drink their martinis or beer. Once or twice a season, someone will be partying and making noise but it is usually over by 1:00 and if it gets too loud, a cell phone call to the local police will quiet them down. It is in a small town and there are homes near by.

For the most part, my fellow dockers would be too embarassed to be making noise knowing that others are trying to sleep.

Every time I spend the night at the dock, it is other noises that I am trying to drown out. The ducks, the geese, the turtles scraping their shell on the hull, the bubbling sound of the current under the boat, those big grass carp splashing in the water. Those are the noises that keep me awake.

to me its like buying a camper and parking it in a motel parking lot, then complaining about the traffic. poor things.

If you are paying for a marina and they have basic rules to follow then the marina should be monitoring the place and dealing with those who break the rules.

I disagree with your statement. Before I rented the slip, I read the marina rules that were quite reasonable, and I agreed to them thinking that everybody else agrees and follows them.

I agree with you, but there is nobody there at night from marina office to monitor. I did some verbal complains, and they told me that I have to do it in writing so they can go after offender. I din't want to go that far, after all we are all boaters, and I was hoping that marina manager would just approach the guy and warn him that there are some complains, but they wouldn't do that and kept asking to do it in writing. So I did last time, will se what will happen.

Since my wife and I were the first ones to complain, then others on the dock followed through with their complaints. For the last 2 weekends, it has been as peaceful as can be.

The owner of the marina told them that the next time a park ranger would have him removed from the lake. Guess that finally got his attention.
