Re: oxidation

you can wetsand then buff, you can rubbing compound then polish, you can use vertglas fiberglass kits, or you can use vaseline. all depends on how long you want to spend and how long you want it to last

Re: oxidation

You can so it by hand however if the boat is bigger than a dinghy you will regret the work.

Many people here have purchased polisher's from northern tool or harbor freight to accomplish the task. There are fiberglass restore products and follow them with a good sealer. A sealer is better than wax for a boat.

Some people have used comet cleanser first then compound then wax.

Serious oxidation will make you work.

Wet sanding is also needed sometimes.........then there is another alternative route to use Vaseline........ go ahead and search for that on iboats ;)

Good luck

Re: oxidation

I tried the Vaseline trick for the first time a few weeks ago and I'm really happy with the results. I had quite a bit of oxidation on my metal flake gelcoat. I'm not really sure if it actually removes the oxidation, but it looks great. Took about 45 minutes on a 16 1/2 footer.

The vaseline does wonders.
I don't know why, it just does.

Re: oxidation

Absolute best way is to wet sand and polish. But vaseline, then a good coat of wax will work great also. Will last you a season and cost about $5 and 45 minute of your time.
