Hmmm I know when the wardens pull you over they usually ask for it.

Not required here in TN, but I've just always had the habit of having one board. More often it's for pushing off stuff vs. paddling. In fact, the two times I've had "paddle" in it was easier (and more fun) to tie off a bow painter and dive in with the kids and swim it in.

There's an idea - line the kids up across the swim platform and have them push. It'd be like having several small outboards. Real "kickers" in fact!

Actually - we did that ^^^^ monkeying around with a friends boat years ago (wasn't broke, we were just goofing around). The kids got a real laugh outta' it. Wish I had video :) Gotta' watch out for that outdrive though ... it's a shin buster.

One of these on each side .. I've never had to use em for paddling but they are good for pushing off things ...

I carry 2 wooden paddles in my 21'. As mentioned, they're not much use in wind or current; that's anchor time. However, has anyone ever had a newbie passenger shove your boat off from the dock before you got the engine started? If it doesn't start, you can be in an embarrassing situation rather quickly. I used my paddles just last weekend to approach a shallow shore to change a spun prop (newly purchased rebuild). - Grandad

You can row a surprisingly big boat if there is no wind/current! Some neighbors ran out of gas on a 24' pontoon. Rowed it back with a person sitting on the front of each tube (old style pontoon) rowing with dinner plates! It was a very, very slow trip, and lots of human fuel (alcohol) was consumed on the way back.
