Hey Ebb,<br />We're planning a trip to Lanier on weekend of Aug 23. Plan on camping in pop-up an wondered if you had any comments on the campgrounds - either COE or other. Guess living there you don't use them, but thought you might know a little about them. Plans are some cruising, early morning/late afternoon fishing, and tubing/sking. Read about a party cove near PineIsle golf course and wouldn't mind taking a peek at it although that type boating doesn't fit our normal style.<br /><br />Thanks!

Re: Paging Ebb

sorry been so busy since yesterday, i just checked back. yeah, i've heard of and even seen pics in LLanier newpaper of a certain 'hangout' cove. but i'm not sure where it is. i think from that story last summer it is (like you said) off the LL Islands, so a cruise around them will help you find it. there are @ 4 islands connected with bridges and you could probably run around them in @ 20 minutes.<br /><br />COE? i'm lost on that one.<br />but since i'm already living nearby, i haven't used the campgrounds other than for lake access. but i would like to/hope to have a get-together in a campground that impressed me the most - Chestnut Ridge. you can look at this link to help<br /> http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/nrrs/ga/ches/newindex.html <br /><br />also<br /> http://www.georgiamagazine.com/outdoors/lakes/lanier/camp.htm

Thanks for info Ebb...just got back from 4 days camping at West Point lake south of Atlanta. Great fun. COE is Army Corp of Engineers. They run several campgrounds on Lanier inclunding the Chestnut Ridge you mentioned. I've always stayed in state parks until this weekend at West Point. We stayed in a corp campground on West Point and I was really impressed.

The cove you mentioned is called "cocktail cove", I was there this weekend, it was really overcrowded being a holiday, my guess is about 150 boats on Saturday. Generally there are anywhere from 75 to 100 boats there on Sunday maybe a little less on Saturday. All different types from 16ft to the million dollar ones. The only bad thing is the people who don't watch what they are doing and get a little too close to other boats, that makes me a little nervous. You generally have a big mix of people there, some just hanging around for the afternoon, some there to party. It is located on the western most part of the island one cove west of the PineIsle resort.

Re: Paging Ebb

Thanks...Sounds pretty crowded...This will be first outing without kids and we're looking for something a little different than we would with the kids. Also, hope to see some cool boats.
