Re: Paint?

depends on what exactly you're asking. as for the 'process of painting' there
are a lot of similarities. now, type of paint is quite different, especially below
the waterline. when it comes to the make-up of the paint, a boat's paint more closely resembles house paint than automotive. and the bottom paint is just nasty all around.

of course, none of that probably answers your question. so, going on assumptions; if you've painted a car you can definitely paint the boat and as far as I'm concerned, if you've painted your house you can paint your boat....but everybody's got their own opinion

Re: Paint?

From what I have read on this forum, depends on whether the boat is a trailered rig (hauled to the water, used, hauled home) or left in the water. Auto and other finishes are durable enough for trailered rigs, but boats left in the water need special paint and care. Someone who knows more should chime in soon.

Hello NateL...

Yes and no..

Boats will not handle the normal "fillers" you would normally use for production auto repair ( IE .. Dglass..autoglass.bondo.. Etc. ).

They can..but depending on your location those quick cure fillers will fail.

Replace glass with glass..and Gel with Gel ..

Yes you can put an automotive CCBC on a boat.. just make sure you use the sealers/primers that go with your application..

Imron is a Standard "boat" paint along with Awlgrip2000 ( basically the same but AwlG cant be mixed/tinted as readilly (spell).

So .. In a word.. Yes/No.. body is different fillers..prep and final coat/prep Is the same..your primer may fluctuate..

YD.
