I just tried the search and no luck, Does anyone know how to take the paint of the engine covers?
also what is a good kind of paint to use on them?
My engine is a Merc 150, 1985 year. thanks.
Endura has the most chemical resistant, UV resistant paint around. Its a 2 part plastic paint formulated for industrial use. I've used it on cars, trucks and several motors and props....
Lightly sand the bad areas, and feather in , with a very fine sand paper, THEN SPRAY with zinc-chromate primer. Let dry and spray again with the Merc color.
Haste makes waste , take your time!!
Well ...someone before me has painted this motor, so it has Mariner to make it look like a blackmax, so now the black is looking bad, do you think just removing the black and sanding the silver will be ok? can I use a chemical to help getting the black of? thanks.
I repainted my Johnson Hood because it was looking pretty sad. I went to Autozone and got a can of Spray Stripper and it worked great! You just spray it on, let it set for about 10 minutes and hose it off. Got it right down to the Base. Then I wet sanded it with #400 first, the #800 to got it real smooth. Took Tack Cloth to get the dust of and Primed and Painted it. Looks great!! Put a new set of decals on it, too(Customized)! Been that way all summer and still looks good. One thing I forgot to do was Wax it before I took it out and the Water splash left it's marks on it. Tough to get out! So do wax it before you use it! If you need any more help contact me at rickdb1@earthlink.net. Good Luck,
Hey thanks for the info, that's what I need to hear.I will be doing this painting project next month.
The decals I found out can be made at a local printing shop here in town, for a lot less than Merc wants. thanks again.
