If you are painting on gel coat you really do not need to prime. Gel coat in itself is a primer....Painting over... or on top of paint is a completely different story.. Is this petitie a 1 or two part paint

I would also suggest prime before painting..

From your link on Easypoxy

"Easypoxy is a highly rated, one-part polyurethane topside paint improved by the addition of silicone for a brilliant shine and easy brushability. It also contains ultraviolet filters which enhance the already superior gloss retention and durability of polyurethane. This results in a topside finish that is exceptionally easy to apply and produces a lasting gelcoat-like brilliance, with a minimum of effort. Easypoxy is available in white and twenty-five popular topside colors. "

Erm.. Silicone modified poly ? ..

Ask them if this can be sanded and buffed out.

I did not ask about sanding but I did ask about buffing and they said yes as long as I apply enough to not buff through it. I have one side sanded and taped of I will finish the other side tomorrow and be ready for a coat.

Silicone is added to many types of paint, gel coat too, it helps to prevent fisheyes and lets it flow better.

Most paints bond to gel coat very well with no primer, I use primer to fill and cover small defects in the surface, if that isn't needed I don't use them. All those big trucks that you see on the road, those hoods and cabs are fiberglass, none are primered.

Well last night I got my first coat of red on and it is really shinny. I am going to try tonight to do my second coat and I don't believe I am going to try any thinner and just seemed to thin last night. I also might try just a good brush and and then tip with foam bush if needed instead of roller.

Remember that Red does NOT cover very well. It almost goes against logic.

Using red will require you to put an extra coat or two compared to lets say "white" .

I didnt now if you mean thin as in didnt cover or was too runny ..

Well sorry for the late post back but it is done I ended up doing 4 coats. Sunday early morning before the kids and wife got up I ended up putting the last coat on pulled all the tape. It turned out really well after I get the motor in I will pull it out side and see what it looks like in the sun. Don't mind my mess in the garage.

Thanks
I am thinking about maybe 1/4 or 3/8 black pin stripe around the bottom of the red.
