Painting the siding of a pontoon

I recently purchased a 15 year old pontoon. I have pressure washed the decals off and sanded the sides. There are a few bare spots down to the metal siding. Now I'm ready for paint. What do you recommend for paint? I've read alot about Rustoleum enamel, Rustoleum Marine, and marine paint. Also, what should I use for primer? Roll or spray? Looking for a lasting look without the expense. Any help would be great!

Welcome to iboats.

You can use really any paint you want the important thing is to use etching primer on any bare spots, it is thin enough that you can just use it ion the bare spots without any show through and you can get it at any auto parts store.

I have seen alot of post where guys used the rusoleum wiht good results, search roll and tip, it is a method of painting wiht a roller that works really well, never done it so I can't give specifics.

The true secret is in the prep. Good prep = good results.

Roll and tip with rustoleum is very good. I would add in a touch of penetrol and some hardener to improve the "flow" and make the finish last. The best part about using rustoleum is the ability to touch up in the future..... easy to match and apply.

I used the rustoleum bare metal primer. Had it on a little over year 150+ days fishing and a kept at the marina and it is holding up great.

Thanks for all of the info.
I read quite a bit and watched some how to videos on the the roll and tip method. Would it not be better to spray it, so I can get in the corners of all the railing, etc? I'm up for either. Are there downfalls/disadvantages to spraying Rustoleum? I'll post some pics when finished.

i did spray mine. I removed the siding from the rails though.
