Parts Diagrams for Four Winns

I have a 1995 four winns and need to find some steering components. I have about 10-15 degrees of slop in the steering wheel and seems like it’s somewhere in the box behind the dash.

I’ve looked on the web but haven’t found a good source…. Where do people go other than the dealer to find parts?

Thanks all!

steering parts are not made by four winns, however from companies like seastar (formerly teledyne)

another place for steering slop is your tiller arm on the drive.

Is your steering hydraulic or mechanical? If mechanical, is it rack and pinon or rotary?

If steering is hydraulic, can you bleed it?

Pretty sure it’s cable from the steering wheel to transoms then power assisted.

I guess I’m struggling to figure out what to replace items with unless I pull them out and get a part number to reference.

The boat is at a lake an hour away so typically I buy the parts I need and go fix it.

the steering cable should be hot-stamped every foot or so with the cable part number. so you can get the length and series from that number.

you may have to pull it out to read the numbers or measure it. Pro-tip, tie a bit of nylon chord on the end of the steering cable when you pull it out toward the helm so you can fish it back thru

since Teleflex steering division and gauge division were sold off back in 2008, you have to do a bit of googling to see what it converts over to in the new SeaStar lineup.

there is also U-flex on the market today.

there is no easy lookup of parts like you can for a 1995 chevy truck.. Truth is, if Fourwinns was in business today, they could not tell you what was assembled on the line on a particular boat back in 1995

you have either rotary helm or a rack and pinion helm. if you stick your head up under the helm, take a pic.

rotary helm. (BTW, they all look similar). really need the hot-stamped numbers off the cable length. from there, you can order a new rotary helm and cable system
