Got a chance to pick up an older 35 hp for parts, do you think the gear case from a 35 fit on my 1990 force 50.

Can anybody determine the age of this 35 ??

Sadly, no! The 35 has 2 to 1 gears and a smaller diameter driveshaft. While the engines look almost identical externally, almost nothing is swappable. The 35 is a completely different engine block.

This info is based on slightly earlier 35 engines. If you remove the lower unit and the drive shaft IS the same diameter (which I doubt) Then the lower units are swappable HOWEVER: Since the 35 uses a 2 to 1 ratio while the 50 uses about a 1.6 to 1 ratio, you would need to increase prop pitch by about 2

you do appear to have some sort of tilt/trim. If this firs the 35, it MAYl also fit the 50 as I believe the transom clamps are the same size on both engines. Again, you would need to put the stainless "saddle" onto the 50 yoke for the trim ram to bear on. If there is no provision for a tilt cylinder in the 50 yoke, the the steering yoke and kingpin would need to be changed (if a tilt cylinder is used with that system

Oh Well ...... Thanks for the reply Frank. I can get the 35hp. for $100.00 (blown motor) but with all sorts of goodies supplied, controls cables, tilt, etc, and 2 props (one new). The prop has the same michigan prop number as my 50hp. I know it's just a picture, but would you hazard a guess as to what year the 35 in the picture is ?? I'm waiting for the seller to get back to me on the year. Thanks ...Rick...

Thanks, still waiting for the guy to find the year. I think I will take it as I need a prop as well and he has a spare. Thanks again I will let you know how the swap works out.

Received the 35 hp yesterday morning. Everything from the main driveshaft down fits like a glove. Very easy swap, new prop and tilt just part of a great deal. $ 100.00 for all.

Hmmmm! So Sometime in the late 1980s they changed the driveshaft to the same diameter as the 50. Interesting.
