Hey guys. Figured this would be the best place to post this. I am in the process of removing the old swim ladder from my transom and putting a new one on. What do I need to use to patch the 4 holes from the old ladder that are just above the water line where the bolts went through the transom? I've found Marine epoxy, cement and stuff like that and was wonder if that would work to just put that in the hole and let it dry, then put more to get the outside of the hole even with the transom surface. Would that work? I don?t really care if there are a couple small holes that are a slight different color white (boat is white) than rest of boat because they are on the transom just above the water line and will not get noticed much. What would you guys recommend using?

Thanks! :D

if you dont care about it.....3m 5200 will do....

to do it well .....grind the area clean with acetone, fill holes with .3m 5200, seal gell coat with marine tex.

the permanant, way is as above but use a layer of glass,

cheers

ok, so what is the harm in just putting in the 3m 5200 without all the other steps? My boat is kept in a garage when not in use so it's out of the sun, plus its cleaned after every use. I'm not debating that the later option you mentioned is better by any means....I just want to know what the harm in using just the 3m 5200 would be. Oh, and thanks for the help oops!

A 5200 only repair won't last as long or be as strong, will look like bird crap, and can be punctured.

If it's a tiny hole it may not matter, but if it's that tiny just fill it with marine tex for a nice clean look....

as erik said... it will look like bird carp !...(if the hull is blue and the 5200 is white)

white on white is not too bad.....

the marine tex is legendary strong and can be painted.

td is talking about on a transom......when a motor has a different bolt pattern. most will be hidden by the motor.....

a swim ladder is uasually off to the side and the holes will stick out like a sore thumb........

it just depends on how anal you want to be :)

UPDATE:

Ok, so I took the old ladder off last night and the holes are about the size of well.....I guess they are about as big around as the cord on your mouse. (I couldn't think of what they were the size of so I figured ya'll could just look down at your mouse and see that. :D) Anyway, so do ya'll think the 3m5200 will work fine for this application?

Also, the holes are actually in the dark navy blue part just below the black rubber bumper that goes around the boat so i think if I fill the holes in the with black, you won't even be able to notice them due to their location. :D
