Pavers on a Pool Deck

Thinking of starting a project. Nothing like waiting until summer comes in Florida before starting another outdoor job...

I want to cover my existing concrete/acrylic coated pool deck with the 1" thick pavers & coping. I've seen it on the web and watched the videos and the results look great.

My question is, has anyone ever done this and what were the problem points that you encountered. I'm handy enough with the home improvement aspect and already have the wet saw, just wondering if there is anything out of the ordinary I should consider.

Make sure you've got the right stuff to adhere to your acrylic coating or blast it off first. Other than that, it sounds like any floor tile job with an exterior grade grout.

Oh and also follow your existing concrete expansion joint pattern, don't bridge joints with pavers. I'm curious if there also shouldn't be a joint at the edge of the coping as it would be supported by the the pool. Your local concrete supply house will have decorative joint material for all of this. Good Luck! :D

Actually, the only stuff that gets adhered to the deck are the coping pieces at the pools edge. They get stuck down with a caulking gun tube of...MorterBond, I think...and the rest float on a 1/8" bed of sand on the deck. They get butted to the house and the screened enclosure. No way for them to pop up (tiny sand joints). The only thing I have to do is raise the skimmer cap with a 1" collar. Goes over the drains, too as each joint acts as a drain...

I've done a couple of them. We mixed sand and concrete together, half and half. Spread out about a quarter inch of the mix and layed the pavers. When done we hosed down the pavers and they stick for years. Without the concrete mix I found after awhile the pavers will clack when walking on them. This was done with a contractor friend and the only way I have seen done.

Good Luck, Fireman.

You didn't mention you were going sand set. That's way easier.

The sand set is a good way to go. I did my front walkway and steps that way and it looks great. I used cement epoxy on the end pieces and it is as hard as rock. The only thing you might want to consider is after you put the payer in put a seal coat on at least once.
