peak -reading voltage meter

I am now needing to do output test on sensor coil page 3-34 of service manual 508147. Cannot get peak-reading voltage meter but since we are only looking at .5 volts is one necessary or will I fry something eletronically in the coil or elsewhere on motor.\Evinrude 120-1992. Yes, I am still tinkering with this thing. In checking other things I have been aware of the on board charger being hooked to start battery along with 2 trolling batterys. Another post made mention of to high of a charge in battery will cause a run problem. Isolated start battery, used boat a couple of trips on water thought problem was cured. Started to miss again, then cleared up in 1 minute of run time. Same problem as before.

Hi Dewley,<br />I've posted this before, a standard digital multimeter will work for this on the AC scale. All of the voltages that are generated from under the fly wheel are AC the peak reading meter simply uses a full wave rectifier to change the AC to DC. Use the appropriate AC scale and multiply the reading by 1.414 this will give you a reading to work with. Actually this is the way that the RMS values that the standard meter displays,( which is 70.7% of peak) to a peak value.<br />Good Luck

I learned something new, thanks, A.R.A. <br />This is going to come in mighty handy at 12Footer Central, as I am too cheap to buy the adapter needed for my meter.<br />And it makes sense. That's what I like about iboats.
