pee hole and thermostat

I have a Yamaha C60TLRV that runs well. I am the second owner now for about one and a half years. I replaced the thermostat about a year ago when the high temp alarm went off (along with the impeller just in case - probably time anyhow) with resolution of the alarm. Just recently I went to flush at home and no water out of the pee hole. Dropped the foot, no probs with visual inspection of the impeller. Took the thermostat out and got my stream back immediately upon recranking. I always flush with plenty of water pressure and it wasn't a really cool day that might change the thermostat function. I am happy to change the thermostat again but can't help but wonder what's the underlying problem. Thoughts? Thanks.

I suppose it could be that but the water came right out the pee hole when I re-cranked it after taking the thermostat out....

Re: pee hole and thermostat

You can test the thermostat in a pan of water on the stove. Heat the water from cold to hot with the thermostat suspended in the water and watch it open. If it doesn't open when in hot water, it's bad. If you can see a temperature value stamped in the button of the thermostat, that should be the opening temperature and a tehrmometer in the water will tell you if the thermostat is opening at the correct temperature.
