I know you are all going to say what I have probably heard and read before, but I can't get that expletive :grumpy:s/s grub screw out to put in a pisser above the thermostat housing. I have used a screwdriver punch with heat and penetrol, and an impact drill and it won't budge and to be honest I have never had luck with this expletive :grumpy: grub screw.

Sorry I forgot to bag Australia Post for taking over 5 days to deliver my tilt trim, I DONT LIVE IN CHINA Australia Post ( soz for the vent )

There is an odd shaped boss on the block just behind the top of the head. Drill through into the water jacket and tap it for a 90 degree brass hose barb fitting.

I chamfered the grub screw to make a hap-hazard hex head, then used a socket;-)

Yeah, its that dissimilar metal corrosion that is biting it. The thread where the s/s is contacting the block is the problem..... Remove very slowly and keep applying WD40. I did like a 1/4 turn a day for over 2 weeks, applying WD between every turn.

Hey Mick – Coming in to the thread late, but if you haven’t buggered up the screw too much, look for the biggest screwdriver in the toolbox (but has to fit the slot – talking about a slotted screw, right?) My weapon of choice has a square shaft so I can grip it with a vise grips down by the blade. By pushing down (I mean really leaning on it), you can get a good bit of leverage using the vise grips – maybe tapping it with a smallish hammer. Usual rules apply – lots of wd40 or whatever preference you have (I like ATF), trying to crack it both clockwise and counterclockwise, heat. But the additional torque you get with vise grips can make the difference. ‘course the fool thing might still break off before it budges.

Anyway, it sounds like Frank A. has already gotten you off the hook by pointing out another location. I’m not a big fan of tell tales, but will shut up about that (except to say I just picked up an OMC cylinder head temp gauge that I think is a better idea….)
Curt

(correction -- a Bombardier gauge. thing has a '92 mfg date, which already makes it NOS I suppose! geez.)

Agree with oldboat-- I don't have a pisser on any of my engines--reason: when running the boat, you simply can not look back long enough or frequently enough to monitor the water flow. The only good a pisser does is at first start at the ramp where you can tell if you have water before starting out. And even there, you can look at the idle relief holes to check for water flow!

With a pump malfunction, the engine will overheat faster than you can monitor the pisser. AND--- A marginal pump will overheat the engine with reduced water flow while the pisser will still be showing water.

A water pressure gauge, or temperature indicator gauge is a much better choice when combined with an overheat indicator.

Thanks, might look at a water pressure gauge, can I ask though, if you get high pressure would it be the thermo gone and if it is low is it possibly the impeller?

Re: Pee hole for my 100hp

The thermostat has a weep hole and your engine possibly does have a water bypass valve so pressure would stay at a certain level. However, I would expect to see a good drop in pressure when the thermostat opened. Conversly, if it did not open, I would expect to see no drop in pressure as the engine heated up, then overheated. I don't know for sure, I have never seen the need to install a water pressure gauge. Maybe someone who has installed a pressure gauge will chime in with their experience.
