pee hole frezzes

75 hr johnson 1979 stinger
every time i start my motor my pee hole just spits (kinda like sucking water through a broken straw) for a few seconds 15-30 sec, then it pumps water strongly, it will push its pee water about 6 in below lake level, so it pumps hard

when it spits, the water gets very hot, it would burn my hand if it was a solid stream, but when its doing right it its about same temp as lake,

the pump is supposed to be brand new, but the engine was supposed to run fine also

i have never ran motor with/out being in water or on muffs

My motor was supposed to have a new water pump in it when I bought it too, and it did, however it was assembled wrong.

it shouldn't take 15-30 seconds for water to come out of the tell tale, I think it's worth taking the time to drop the lower unit and inspect the water pump assembly and impeller for yourself, While you have it apart you can inspect the water tube and any other associated parts, you can also use a water hose and run water up the tube and see how long it takes to exit the motor, I bet it won't be 15-30 seconds.

Sounds like the motor is just pushing air out of the water passages upon startup. This is normal. If the motor (not the water) is not overheating at any point, or in any normal operating mode, I wouldn't worry about it.

Jay, I would agree with you, if it was only a few seconds, but almost half a minute seems a bit extreme.

Question I have is this just an estimation or actual time, the 2 big downfalls of the human being are the ability to judge time, and distance.

If I were to OP, I would time the period from startup to steady flow. My guess is that it is well under 30 seconds.

That said, my motor has a pee tube that I installed - its old enough to not have one as original equipment. When I start up, it sputters for awhile and it may actually be as much as 30 seconds. What it tends to do, is to sputter quite a bit for about 10 - 15 seconds and then it mostly squirts water, with a few "belches" of air for the remainder of time, until solid flow is achieved.

Really, however, the bottom line, is whether or not the motor is getting hot. Replacing an impeller of an unknown wear condition is certainly prudent, but I wouldn't do it, just because a motor doesn't immediately produce a solid strean via the Pee Tube.

thanks guys, i should have brought this up but when i first got it, it would pump water instantly , it just started this a few weeks ago.

ive got a harbor freight tools around the corner here, ill put a laser thermometer on my shopping list, what is my normal operating temp for my motor?

ill run the boat out to the beach Saturday, ill video tape the frizzing,

^^^^pretty much whats it doing, spuders a couple times then sprays, then maybe anouther spuder, then solid

If the water is hot enough to burn your hand but you say the impeller is working, I would look at your thermostat. The motor should be between 145 degrees and 180 degrees (or so) after it's run for a few minutes.
