Re: Pelosi in Syria

Talk about hypocrisy, not only are the attacks on Pelosi hypocritical, but the timing suggests they are partisan . Why did the White House wait until Pelosi’s visit to raise this issue publicly, and not make mention of the Republicans already there?

Republican Reps. Aderholt and Wolf are currently visiting Syria. According to a congressional official on Rep. Robert Aderholt’s (R-AL) staff, Aderholt and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) are currently visiting Israel and Syria. Plus Republican Rep. Hobson is accompanying Pelosi on the Syria visit. Michael Lowry, a spokesman for Representative Robert Aderholt, said that the Alabama lawmaker will visit Syria as part of a Republican delegation led by Representative Frank Wolf, a Virginia Republican.

“Earlier this month, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Ellen Sauerbrey held talks with a senior Syrian diplomat on how Damascus was coping with a flood of Iraqi refugees, the first such talks in the Syrian capital for more than two years.”

Re: Pelosi in Syria

I heard John McCain was on a surprise trip to Iraq, and he says everything is going peachy over there, forgetting for the moment I guess the six new American soldiers who died over the weekend.

I guess he visited a market, but forgot to mention the 100 American troop escort, with 3 Blackhawk helicopters flying cover for him.

Oh, well. I guess we should get used to the playing of politics with the lives of American soldiers. It doesn't seem it's going to end anytime soon.

Tree you are right on that topic, but you must remeber the messenger is about the worst represnative this country could have ever sent,

You see she is a female, and they have no place in the muslim world other than wearing a scarf and tending to the affiar's of women.

Frankly it would probably be considerd a insult, as in not showing respect for there custom's or culture, now who's arrogant ( A big part of the whole problem over there and here)

I will be the first to say i am not completely aware of the middle east's current policy's on women conducting foreing affiar's, does anyone have a more enlightened understanding?

Perhap's this post is way off the target.......... dunno?

Here are a few snippets from their constitution, plus a link if you feel the urge to do a bit of reading. The majority or Sunni same as the Iraqis and the ruling party are Ba'th Party same as Iraq.

Mostly secular ,which means that women can hold office.
Too me Syrian President Bashar, looks like a mini-Saddam , he operates under the radar, whereas Saddam liked to act out in the public arena.

<<Women and minorities, with the exception of the Jewish population and stateless Kurds (see Section 5), participated in the political system without restriction. There were 2 female cabinet ministers, and 30 of the 250 M.P.s were women.>>

<<Syria is a republic under an authoritarian regime with virtually absolute authority in the hands of the President. The President, with counsel from his ministers, senior members of the ruling Ba'th Party, and a small circle of security advisers, makes key decisions regarding foreign policy, national security, internal politics, and the economy. President Bashar al-Asad was confirmed by an unopposed referendum in July 2000 for a 7-year term.>>

<<c. Freedom of Religion
The Constitution provides for freedom of religion, and the Government generally respected this right in practice; however, it imposed restrictions in some areas. The Constitution requires that the President be a Muslim. There is no official state religion. Sunni Muslims constituted the majority of the population. >>

<<The Government considered militant Islam a threat and followed closely the practice of its adherents. The Government allowed many new mosques to be built; however, sermons were monitored and controlled.>>

<<Muslims and Christians are subject to their respective religious laws on marriage, divorce, child custody, and inheritance (see Section 5). >>

<<Although the law does not prohibit proselytizing, in practice, the Government discouraged such activity, particularly when it was deemed a threat to the relations among religious groups. Foreign missionaries were present, but operated discreetly. >>

I guess that is directed at me, seeing as I’m about the only opposition other than the choir here.
I hate to answer an inquiry/statement with a question but will make an exception in this case.

Hey frog since when is it sympathizing with terrorist when the person that is third in succession to the President is going to a country that he has sent, and yes I said sent, three of his own party there to meet with?

And another question, show me where I have made any statements sympathizing with terrorist? I guess if anybody isn’t in lockstep with President Bush that makes them terrorist sympathizers?
