Are the heavy duty Perko battery on/off switches weather/saltwater resistant enough to mount "exposed" near the back of the boat?

Re: perko on/off switch

pretty much, as with anything exposed the elements will get to it sooner, and if protected. you just don't want it so that someone can turn it, by chance. if it is not a continuous contact, changing it can blow the charging electronics, if the motor is running.

If it's function is simply as an ON/OFF switch then there is no continuous contact except in the ON position. Yes -- turning it off with the engine running will kill the regulator. If you are actually talking about a dual battery switch which Perko also makes, it will be labeled OFF-BAT1-BOTH-BAT2. Then yes, make before break contacts are essential.

Re: perko on/off switch

I have one of those switches at the stern of my boat ( cruser with 2 big battery banks mabe up by 2 marine battereis per bank)

The switch seems to be somwhat water proof and is made for these applications. Yea, I wouldnt pour water on it but I think even in a salt watter application you will be OK for quite some time.
