Has any one used one of these? I do have the petronix distributor set up and need a new coil . I guess this one throws out 40,000 volts as apposed to a standard coil 24,000 and was wondering if there is such thing as too much juice in a coil,,,, New rebuilt 350 motor and I dont want to fry a piston

does it not make a hotter spark then? I read you can gap your plugs more b/c of that

I put the 45,000 Flame Thrower on mine with the IgnitorII... motor seems to run just fine when I test it out of the boat, fires up fast. Can't say if it is any better than a normal coil would be though. I didn't get the epoxy-filled version though... some suggest they last longer than oil-filled becuase of the vibrations in a boat.

a coil puts out just what it takes to jump plug gap.once gap becomes to much to jump, you get a miss,a higher voltage coil will fire plugs longer.if you have a healthy ignition system you wont notice no differance.cyl pressure plays a role higher the pressure harder coil has to work, thats why you get miss under load.

i bought mine, internal resisted with epoxy coil, and ignitor kit for my volvo, made everything so freaking easy and the spark is considerably bigger and brighter... tested with a spark plug gauge and it shows up much much better..

I also have the Pertronix epoxy-filled version mated to a Pertronix billet dizzy with the Ignitor II module. I don't know that it has provided any more power than the old one, but the additional voltage probably helps a little bit.
