OKay guys thanks to all your help I have some what of a clue to what I'm doing. Today I tore the floor out of my 17' fiberglass bass boat, everythign was rotted. I wish I had pictures to show but I'll try to describe the best I can.

I finally figured out what the stringes where. they appear to be 1 x 4 's with fiberglass around them they are breaking about half way up. I obvoisly need to do some work here. My question is can I just splint the old stringer up. By using to small pieces of plywood, placing them on both sides of the old stringer, then screwing them together.. I do play on covering them backin fiberglass but I don't know how, what how do you coat that stuff, and what do you need, I also noticed sheets of fiberglass, on the old floor, where do I get this and whats its function. also where ever the floor met teh hull it seemed to be molded with some kind of fiberglass stuff, what can I get to do the same..

I had a hard time getting the old floor up from under the drivers colum, and the rod storage area, and triks to this.

The last person who replaced teh deck just layed it ontop of the old one carpet and all, and had screww the wood into the fiberglass at places, I think the original design is to lay the floor under the fiberglass lip.. is this true?
I have heard that the carpet clue will not stick to treated plywood, but I haev already bought it, any suggestions here?

Sorry so long winded and bulky..
Thanks,
Thomas

looking for a good boat name. it's a 1976 hydrasports. I'm a buccanneer fan. so I'm thinking either 'ole 76er' or 'swashbuckler'
any ideas?

Now that you know what the condition is, its time for the nasty part. If you want peace of mind, all that wood had to go. You can see where the stringers are glassed to the hull. I Used a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder with a metal cut-off wheel to do all my cutting. I used a metal grinding wheel to do the grinding. I yanked all the wood out, then cut the glass. I ground the remaining lips down, leaving a bare, clean hull.

I do not recommend trying to shore up the current stringers. You will be better off replacing them. On my project, the stringers were 3/4 in thich wood. I am using 3/4 inch plywood for the new stringers. Once gain, I recommend you read all my other posts, they describe what I am doing, your project is similar. BTW, do not use pressure treated anything, the resin won't adhere as well.

You need to do a lot of research b4 you start doing too much more. You will need to support the hull in a manner that it does not change the shape when you cut the stringer out. One way is to leave fg on each side of the stringer and cut just the top off. Then use a chain saw to hollow out the core or if its real bad you can just pry it out with a long flat screwdriver. Raka.com has a online manual on how to use epoxy resin for a quick read. But all the other work is another story. Now you have to ask yourself how much money you want to put into it and how much you really like the boat.
