Pickups

Trying to decided between F250 and F150, 250 with diesel. Looking for comfort and towing (19ft bass boat), I think either is fine, what are the opinions out there.

I think the f250 is probly more than you really need. What motor is in the f150, the 4.6 or the 5.7? The f150 that I test drove had the 4.6 and would pretty easily pull my 18ft boat around, but the 5.7 would have been nice. just my couple of pennies for ya'

The F150 has the 5.7 engine, it is 4 wheel drive and not sure I need that either. Does 4 wheel drive make it ride rougher??

Both are nice trucks, the F-150 has a better interior,will ride better and is very quiet. It will tow a 19ft very well with the 5.4 motor. <br /><br />The F250 diesel will cost a lot more, but get better mpg. The diesel has good resale value too. I would go with the F250 if I towed a lot of miles.<br /><br />You are talking about 05 or newer right?

I have an F350 (basically same as F250) with the diesel. I have over 150K on the clock and it's been the best truck I've ever owned. It's 4wd and it will ride a little rougher, but with the tongue weight on the rear it will smooth it out. I'll never have another gas truck. this is my second diesel and to me, that's the only way to go.<br />ps..you'll like the 4wd on ramps.....if there's slime on them, etc, lock in 4wd and you have good traction from the front wheels.

I tow a 23 footer I/O with a 2003 Expedition and the 5.4 (basically an F150 except the rear suspension). This combo is a lot heavier than your rig and it has been a very good tow vehicle. I would not hesitate to get the F150 with what you are towing.<br /><br />It is a 2WD and has been the best truck I have ever had for tire wear. They wear even all the way around. This is the only reason I would not get 4WD . . . tire wear. If your ramps are never slick and you have no other need for 4WD, I'd stick with 2.

One daughter has a F150 with the 5.4 and my son has a F250 with the 5.4.<br /><br />The 150 is more car-like in handling and ride, but the 250 is a lot more truck when it's time to go to work.<br /><br />I need AWD or 4WD so I would go for that. If you don't need it, don't get it. It has a harsher ride and adds fuel usage.<br /><br />The Diesel is just plain wonderful if you want high fuel mileage and an engine that will outlast you. If you are gonna trade in just a few years it may not be worth the extra bux.<br /><br />Of the trucks you list I would go for the F250 Diesel for mileage, longevity and resale value. It is pretty comfy for a truck and drives and handles easily.<br /><br />Good luck, you rich honky you.

Great now you guys have me down to the F150 or F250 with diesel, sounds like I can not miss. I was just concerned cause someone once told me I would not like the ride of the F250. I will just be using it on trips fishing and hunting, have a car for other driving. I am leaning toward the F250 King Ranch but not sure that it is at all what I will like.

I have a '99 F-150 with the 4.6, auto, and 3.55 gears. Drags my 19' bowrider (4200lb load) around very well with 4 adults in the cab. About to trade it for about a 2002 Expedition w/ 4.6.

If you are only going to pull the boat on occassion why pay for the diesel. I've driven both and the gas engines are more than addequate for your towing needs and the gas engines are sooo much quieter. Just my $0.02. But... What the heck, I just bought a new truck yesterday. I understand the truck bug. Get whatever your inner guy says to get. The big one with all the bells and whistles. Don

IMHP its gonna cost a LOT more to service all the HD stuff VS a standard driveline unless what your are pulling is so big its really required <br /><br /><br />tommays

I compared the King Ranch and The Dodge Mega Cab Diesels side by side. The Dodge has it all over the Ford for room and looks and engine.

Diesel, unless you tow big loads on a regular basis will cost you more to operate day to day than a gas equipped truck. With the exception of the Dodge 6 cylinder turbo the non towing fuel mileage is marginally better than the gas engines in like optioned trucks. The cost of diesel fuel added to increased servicing cost combined with the initial diesel option cost $4000 to $5000 dollars negate any perceived fuel mileage savings.

Hands down, I'd go with the F150. The diesel mileage will not pay for the increased premium of the initial purchase, let alone the increased cost of maintenance. Buying a diesel strictly for fuel savings in a 3/4 ton truck is senseless unless you are towing truely heavy loads all the time. I have a buddy with a new Dodge Ram turbodiesel, and he feels pretty happy when he gets around 20 mpg. He mostly gets about 17-ish, which is about what my ten year old Ford with a 5.8 gas motor gets. Unless you are buying a VW Jetta with those cool little three cylinder diesels, you are wasting your time. Good luck...

Its really simple math to determine if you will come out on a Diesel. How many years you keep one and how many miles you intend to run it should be factored in. Diesel certainly isn't for everyone. I bought mine new in '94, and still drive it. I'm way ahead over a 1994 gas rig and I can tow any trailer or trailer boat.

If I had this choice to decide....I'd go with the diesal 250 4x4.<br />When you want power, you will have it.<br />If you already have a car, then you are all set. Get a 4x4 diesal, with power. <br /><br />That's my opinion anyways. Because before I had a 4x4, I had no idea of how much power I could utilize.<br /><br />B.C.
