Re: PL and MY new transom

I have used PL on two transoms and Thickened resin on one. Both held beautifully. Like Wood said, the strength comes from the Glassing.

If you use PL correctly, it is perfect for adhering to a transom skin.

Pros to PL

1. Long working time
2. Cheap
3. Easy to work with, and cleanup is simple
4. Easy to find

Cons
1. Takes forever to cure
2. Should not be used for fillets, or spanning gaps. Keep the bond thin.

Pros for Thickened Resin (PB)

1. Cures Quick
2. Can be sanded easy

Cons

1. You have to be fast if it is warm
2. Mixing it is a pain in my opinion
3. you will use alot of cabosil, which can really add up the cost.

Us a notched trowel and coat both sides and then use clamping pressure for 48 hours.

Re: PL and MY new transom

Ha frisco Just want to say love your youtube channal and boat restoration Ive watched them all a couple times An picked up SO MUCH GOOD INFO. I didnt go with the pl but instead i used 2 layers of choped strand and clamped it to the hull with 2x4s as i seen you do and it worked perfect! My dad and i rehursed it a couple times before i weted the CS and that helped out so we were both on the same page. Now on to stingers!!! Were i will use PL to bed them. On my boat the stingers had no pouky under the stringers they are rite on the hull.

That works great too. My supplies had not showed up yet on this build, so I took the PL route.
