Hi - I picked up my first boat a few weeks ago (2002 ProCraft 180 Combo) and I ran across a good deal on a Lowrance 27C. I was going to get the 520 but I was able to get the 27 for the same amount. Well, the 27 is a little bigger than I realized and I need help with ordering a mount. I don't want to spend 100 on a mount if I don't have too and I'm not sure which one will work best. I've looked around online at the varios RAM mounts and I'm still a little lost...please help

Here are a few pic's of of what we have to deal with...I'm okay with covering the in dash depth gauge.

Re: Placement Help!

I don't see any way you can fit that in there.

Here's what I'll do to help you out. I have a one year old 522C that I'll trade you for the 27C. I've got the room to make it fit so we are both happy

right????

Re: Placement Help!

I use a ram mount, and the gps/chartplotter is just to the right of where you are holding yours, at eye level. Eye level keeps the sun from being too much of a factor. Plus the wires are tucked out of the way. I found the entire ram mount, including the upper mounting bracket, for $45.

I'm thinking about giving this one a shot and see what works best...

:D

I will be sure to post pics once I get it figured out!!!! I'll be sure to contact you if I fail. ha ha

I will be starting another post on wiring this thing..I have a dedicated home theater that I completed myself...I build computers, etc.. but I will say that I got a little intimidated when I looked under the dash...tons of wires! I took some pics so I'm sure someone will get a good laugh out of my installation questions...since this my first boat I'm a little scared that I'm going to screw something up.

Re: Placement Help!

Toughest part of the install will be figuring out how to run the wire for the transducer. Hopefully you won't have to put a hole in the hull. Lots of threads on that here.

And I think no matter how you mount the unit, you are going to lose access to the cupholder.

Re: Placement Help!

Well, I managed to get my 27c installed today along with my new head unit. Thanks for turning me on to the RAM mounts..never heard of them until I joined this forum. I know it may not be ideal for everyone but I actually like it, alot. It's perfect height and I can still make minor adjustments if needed. I have access to all controls..again very happy!

Since I lost my cupholder up top I decided to route the wires through that location. I still have a cupholder to the right of my seat on the floor.

I still have to install the transducer but I'm holding off for another day. I took the boat out yesterday and it was really nice...since this was our first outing we had a couple issues with getting the boat on the trailer but it will improve in time.

I really need to find a piece of rubber to help with the vibration. It's not terrible but it could be better.
