Re: planing

In a word, no. Over inflation would result in a more rigid hull than recommended spec, this would aid in planing. I guess there is the possibility that severe over inflation could add enough air to result in a little more weight on board. But I would consider this unlikely unless you were so under powered that 20 lbs would make a difference. And I find it hard to believe you could over inflate by 20 lbs. That's a lot of air.

No. Unless you could overpressurize and somehow deform the boat so as to produce additional drag surfaces overinflating would only help planing.. becoming closer and closer to a true rigid surface (that is up until the inevitable 3-P....party pooper point!!! (K-A-B-O-O-M!!! Lol)). Doubtful you could contain enough compressed air to change the boat weight by any real amount. The pressures needed to "pack" that much air in would likely cause boat failure first. We are talking high pressure air floor @ 14 psi, is roughly what air is at sea level. 3 psi gets your tubes up to snuff, 12 makes your air deck very rigid and you would need something in the 20's or higher just to read the likely minimal weight difference, in the volumes we are talking (boat volume isn't so many cubic feet) about. Quadrupling the weight in main tube to say 12 psi, would likely burst them but the additional amount of air weight in the tube (volume) would likely measure in the grams/ ounces, definitely not in pounds. So short answer is no, lol.:)

Re: planing

Can over inflation cause inflatable not to plane?

Can tire overinflation cause a car not to roll, definitely not. Overinflation is a broad concept, any psi amount exceeding 3.5 psi, which is the max tube pressure most sib manufacturers recommends will be considered so. Anyway a small size sib that doesn't plane at its correct working psi and max HP engine won't plane either if overinflated, drag/lenght issues. But surely will do so if being slightly overpowered.

Happy Boating
