I have just discovered the magic of Plastic Dip, it comes in a container about the size of a large Budweiser can and you can dip anything into it and it puts a rubberized coat of plastic on the item. I have done my safety chain as it was starting to scratch up my trailer were it attached and also my plug wrench so it does not scratch the fiberglass cubby were I keep it. Anybody else used this stuff around the garage, I also used it to seal up the ends of all my ropes on the boat.

Re: Plastic dip

Someone here once called the makers of it, and they said people use it to custom 'paint' keel guards using it with decent success. Certainly WAY cheaper than a $140 keel guard. I may get up the nerve to try it out in that respect. After all, if you get the clear you can tint it to anything you want.

Cool stuff and has always been very underrated.

Used the stuff on my pickup!

You can even get it in an aerosole can.. Thats what I used.

I had some bright freaking red Rancho springs to level the front of my truck. I used black plasti-dip in the spray can on them after a good prep. Several years later, they look brand new still. Very happy with this product!!

You can get it at menards, home depo any good hardware store. I have used it on many things. It truly goes on like liquid rubber, hardens in a short amount of time, but remains supple.

Re: Plastic dip

I would love to hear about how someone would use this as a keel guard. I dont see who you could spray it on with masking tape, wouldn't it just all stick together once you tried to pull the tape off, and how would you prep the fiberglass or gelcoat surface?

this is pretty intriguing!

Re: Plastic dip

i picked up a can today...i did one piece of metal for my boat, its gonna take some practice to get a real nice quality finish from what it looks like. its functional though, and handy to have around thats for sure.

As for the keel guard, I was wondering the same thing.....It seems like it would have to almost be halfway setup when you installed it, and then does it really hold for a while or no?
