plastic sound blanket

Another question re: '78 800 inline 4. The wraparound portion of the cover that came with this motor has no plastic sound blanket (and appears nebr to have had one). I have a wraparound cover from an earlier model which has an intact plastic sound blanket. Was the '78 800 supposed to have the blanket? If not, will using one damage the motor in some way? I like the idea of keeping the noise minimized. Thanks again.

Re: plastic sound blanket

You can also replace it with a similar thickness of other material - just be careful to know exactly how the air circulates through the cowling and make sure you don't block it. I've seen everything from plain old foam to stuff sold for outboard sound-deadening. (search the web if you're interested).
