I have 2 lower units. One is a v6 lower unit one is a v 4
I noticed they both have play when wiggling driveshaft side to side. Noticed with and without water pump and housing either installed or removed. Gear oil looked fine. I pressure tested the v6 lower and couldn't get over 2 psi as I hear air leaking from driveshaft area. I have only worked on 60 hp and smaller omc and never noticed any play. Does this suggest something is wrong with these 2 lower units?

Some gearcases have 2 piece driveshafts. They have a junction, just above the driveshaft bearing, and have some wiggle, when not installed. The crankshaft holds the top of the driveshaft, when in use.

There is a seal on the driveshaft. It sounds like yours's is leaking.

Agreed on the 2 piece driveshaft.-----A good shop might have a fixture to hold driveshaft in the correct position for a pressure test.
