Please Help Eninrude Lower Unit

Could someone please help me with this question. I have a 1981 50hp. Evinrude Model number E50BELCIC motor. Last Sunday I blew the lower unit gears on my motor while out boating with my family. Does anyone have any information on other models (hp) or years that are compatible with my motor? ( For example Will a 1986 60hp lower unit fit this motor?) I have small gears in mine, not the large ones.

I think it will fit but one of the John-Rude pros can tell you for sure.
I have a 1981 175 Johnson that has about a 1987 or 88 Evinrude lower on it.
Dhadley or Ezeke would know.
They should reply when they see this..

I have the same motor and I am on my 3rd lower (river fishing) so this , unfortunately, is something I am familiar with.
You don't say if you looked at the lower to find out what is actually wrong with it.
It could be just the clutchdog let go and those are @90 bucks if you do it yourself or it could be you threw teeth off a gear which is alot more, so I would find out exactly what is wrong first.
It is already smoked so you aren't going to hurt anything by tearing it down and you will learn alot and you may even be able to save it.

I have a similar problem with my '83 Rude 60hp lower unit. It goes into gear with the shift rod, but won't spin when the motor turns over. I got the lower unit loose, but haven't figured out how to disconnect the shift rod to get it off to check it out. Where does he rod disconnect, at the top?

New Johnson Evinrude gear set. Replaces part number 397338 and 318304. Fits 60HP 1986-2002, 60HP 20" models 1986 and 1987, 65HP 1984, 65HP 1987, 65HP 1990 and 1991, 65HP Commercial 1985 and 1986 1988 and 1989, 65HP commercial remote 1992-1995, 70HP 1996, 70 HP 1977-1985 20 inch models only, 70HP 1986-1995, 75HP with 20" midsection 1986-1980 and 1982-1987.

WILL THIS FIT MINE.

The gear set you need is a #433570. The ones you have posted are for 3cylinder motors( bigger housing). The unit I have is a 87 and off a 50hp motor. Will sale for 350.00+shipping.Unit will have new seals & impeller and pressure checked. Unit has a whale tail installed but will remove. Housing will need some touchup paint. Can e you pics if needed. Can rebuild yours as long as driveshaft is not damaged. All roller, needle & thrust bearings replaced, new seals, new water pump, new gears, gear lube, labor and 90 day warranty for 525.00 plus whatever shipping. Only thing I ask is that engine is properly prop'ed for max rpm..
