I'm looking for some help on my 2000 yamaha 150hp vmax hpdi(vz150tlry). First off let me state that the boat has been between a yamaha tech and I, with the tech doing most of the work. The problem as been lack of power and the motor has been in limp mode. There were also codes thrown for the atmospheric pressure sensor and the fuel flow sensor. We replaced the atm pressure sensor and that began reading properly. The fuel flow sensor still wasn't reading so we replaced all fuel filters in hopes that it would right the sensor. The filters were bad and needed to be changed anyways. The sensor still wouldn't read and the motor was still in limp mode so we just replaced it. He put the new sensor in and ran the motor on the hose while it was hooked up to his laptop. The motor started and ran until his program started to boot up, and then the motor just cut out and died. Now it won't even start. It will turn over, but it's got no spark, no fuel delivery, and the ecu won't communicate. The new sensor should have cleared the code and taken the motor out of limp mode solving my problem. But now it seems we have another problem. We have now replaced the plugs, all 3 fuel filters, the atm. pressure sensor, and the fuel flow sensor. Please tell me my ecu isn't bad. Has anyone ever experienced this? The boat is currently at his shop and he is working on it, but he sounded pretty confused as well. Any guidance or advice is very much appreciated.

Re: Please Help! hpdi ecu problem

looking at your past post you are not giving the complete picture of what has been going on, so I do not believe you will get the answer you are looking for.
What did you do after you blew the piston and what all did you do to the fuel system?
You never answered the post about the fuel pressures and that is still one of the the questions.
how have you been testing the spark? What kind of compression do you have on all cylinders.
Testing in a methodical way according to the Yamaha service manual will do a good job of identifying where the problem lies, but you have to follow it.

You need to get more information, "limp home mode"? Is this something you experienced or was this experienced on the hose. The HPDI has and overrev in neutral and cylinders 2 and 3 are dead in neutral. You don't have a problem with an ECU. Their is probably no problem with your sensors either. What are the compression results, fuel pressure, and spark results. If your shift swith is malfunction the motor may think it is nuetral and that may be your limp home mode.

Thanks for the replies guys. The tech working on my motor says the ecu is dead and he confirmed that with Yamaha. I bought one and we will be putting it in this week. If this doen't fix my problem I will be back on here. I got your pm 99yam40, will do if this doesn't resolve it. Thanks.
