Please help identifing used 175 mercury

I have just purchased a used 1989 Sea Ray Laguna 20 and the enigine is a Mercury 175 XRi S/N 0D078111. The seller was not able to tell me what year the motor is and I can only find the serial number stamped on the mount to the transome. Help identifing this would greatly be appreciated.<br /><br />I have looked through the postings and found the link http://www.marinshopen.se/ and if I read this correctly, my motor is a 1993. Mercury has a site for dealers... It's in your product history for the serial number you gave. It shows who originally bought it, and what(if any) warranty repairs were made.<br /><br />ENG: 0D078111 1175413LD 1991 MERCURY 175XRI L

This is all I have. It's only warranty repairs that Mercury paid a dealer to do. What does the "L" signify at the end? Is that the length of the shaft?<br /><br />Please excuse me, this is my first boat and I want to learn

"long" shaft. for a 20" transom. Such as on a bass boat.

I guess this is not the original motor for the 1989 Sea Ray I bought.

It could be the first engine bolted to that boat.<br />It's hard to say...<br />It may not have sold until later. <br />It(the engine) wasn't sold originally until june of 1992, so it sat for a little while...
