Please help identify model year engine

I just bought a used boat/motor/trailer so I could strip the motor off it. The seller didn't know what year the motor was but was guessing mid 90's. Here's what I know about it:

200 HP Black Max 2.5L Offshore V-6 model. It has carburetors- not injected, and also has an oil tank mounted inside the cowling. It has one spark plug per cylinder. It has the big square cowling instead of the newer shorter cowls. Tomorrow I'll look for serial numbers and take note of the colors of the stripes etc.

This is going to power my 21 ft bowrider this summer, should be plenty of power.

S/N 06245117, looks like it's a 1983- any known problems?

Re check your serial number and see if that 6 is actually a G. The number you posts is for an electric Thruster trolling motor.

If a G, it's a 200XL from 1995

I'll double check the serial number tomorrow, the engine's not at my house it's at work. From the pictures I've found it looks just like the 1995 brochure pics, not the 1983 pics.

By the way, where should I be looking for the serial number? The number I found was on a sticker on the mounting bracket. I don't see anything on the engine itself. It must be etched somewhere.

Other than the sticker which is in the right place, can you see a disc like this somewhere on the powerhead?

I went to work and looked at the engine again. You are right, it's a "G" not a 6. I'm glad to know that it's a much newer engine than I had originally thought. I also found the disc on top of the right cylinder head. It's much easier to see that it's a "G" on the stamped disk.
