3/4 ton suburban, that would be a good choice for that weight, or excursion

I'm guessing the bigger rims will take away towing capacity?

I am not sure if it's the rim size per se, or just the rim material. I suppose a steel rim is far stronger then an aluminum one. Also the tire size will have a large effect on final gear ratio, thus a taller tire will decrease gear ratio and cause more stress on the drive train.

Go with a full size SUV. I have a 23' Mariah. I have a suburban and a F150. I only tow with the F150 if the wife has the suburban. The longer wheel base is more comfortable, the boat don't push the suburban around like it dose the F150. I also upgraded to 4 wheel disk on the trailer.

Stay with stock rim and tire sizes. The engineers spent alot of time deciding which ones to use.

Use good quality load rated (at least d, e is better) tires on your tow vehicle and on your trailer. It makes a huge difference.

The biggest difference between aluminum and steel is that steel bends and aluminum breaks. I use steel wheels for my inners and all of the rest are aluminum. Don't run the cheap rims. Spend the money and get good ones. There is a vast difference in the load and usage ratings between rim manufacturers. Check out Alcoa rims.

Wit5h a boat that big, get a 3/4 ton Diesel.

You will get better fuel Milage, The breaks are bigger and will stop you better, and if you take care of it (be it a Powerstroke, Cummins or Duramax) it will out last everythign else you own. It would be the last truck you will ever have to buy.
