Please help! Trying to replace winch strap

We have a Shorelander Trailer for a 21' Lund Baron. I need to replace the winch strap. The winch is a Profile2000. All the weight of the boat rests on the roller of the neck of the trailer where the winch is installed and there is no way to take the winch cover off to replace the strap since the boat is currently on the trailer! I have been trying to access this from underneath the winch but space seems too tight to slide the bolt out with the cover still on. The bolt is also very bent.

the way I see it, I have two choices -- rewind the strap on the bent bolt, cut off the bad portion of the strap and tie a knot to hook the boat to the strap as a temporary fix till I can get the boat on water and access the trailer. . .

Try to jack the front of my boat up somehow so it's not resting on my trailer so I can take the cover off and replace the winch?

Anyone have any ideas? Is it even possible to change this belt out without taking the cover off the winch?

Thanks, Mike

Re: Please help! Trying to replace winch strap

Mike, intersting, I have the same trailer and it is a heavy duty trailer to say the least. It is the only trailer that I've seen that even has a winch cover. I think most folks won't realize there is even such a thing as a winch cover to even answer your question. I need to go through the same process as I didn't winch the strap in but hooked it on the trailer when bringing the trailer from the access to the cabin and the driver didn't realize it came loose and was dragging and substantially weekened the strap. I have the owners manual for my trailer and I'll take a look at it and see if there are any instrutions.

This is not a two hour job. Splash the boat and replace the strap. Take the applicable tools with you as well as a new bolt.
