i have a friend that needs some info on motor and outdrive thanks... dont know year of motor cuz it was replaced but boat is built in 1975 and on the valve cover searl number is 4218191 but i cant find anything and i think its a ford 188hp with a 888 outdrive maybe? i need to order some outdrive parts and tune up for motor thanks.....hope pics helps

The engine is indeed a Ford 302 V8. Mercruiser call it an '888'. The drive is an MC-1. When looking for parts, use the serial number, that's the most important piece of information you can get when dealing with Mercruisers....

i put that number online and did not work..... is there a way i can get specs on the motor like points gap and spark plug and gaps

but more inporting is how do i know what year the motor is?

Points gap - 0.016"-0.021"
Dwell - 26?-31?
Plugs - AC-MR43T
Plug gap - 0.030"
Timing - 10?BTDC

Year not important, serial number important.

If you really need to know, it's a 1975.
