I just got a 9.9hp chrysler motor, I have no idea what year it is but the plate reads: model 901 series 1960. I wrote in before and Franki told me I should drop the bottom leg and replace the impeller and change the oil in the gearcase before trying to start it, where is the drain and fill plug?. I took the four bolts off of the bottom leg and could only get it to drop out about 2 inches and no further. Should I have it in gear to do this? Also, the control handle or throttle (I am new to boating so my terminology is probably terrible)has a little gear on the underside which fits into another gear, allowing you to throttle the engine. I guess that the gear connected to the throttle on the engine is bound up because the gear on the throttle control just slips, any suggestions

Re: please help

Your best bet is to go to the library and pickup a manual. It will point out these components and give you instructions for these tasks. While replacing the impeller is not a difficult task, the visual aid and specific instructions will keep you out of trouble..
