Lynn I got some horrible news, its time to look for a new trailer, your looking at about $1000 worth of additions to make that trailer work for your boat.

You can upgrade the axles and leaf springs to deal with the weight of the trailer the problem is that you now need to move the bow winch and roller assembly to meet the boat and you can't without welding in another main, there is a chance that you could move the boat forward but no pics of how far aft of center the boat is and I think you know this since you like where the boat is on the trailer. This setup is unsafe for towing at speed, if your lucky enough to be able to drop within a block or so from home and tow at less then 25 MPH you can get away from it but I still think it is unsafe and you are putting a huge amount of "Faith" on that bow strap!!

I would look for a new trailer for your boat, this trailer is made for a longer and lighter boat.

Chances are that the boat is heavier than the 4800 lbs. Generally, you want the trailer to be rated for 1000 - 1500 lbs. more than the boat's specified weight in order to account for fuel, and stuff that is stored in the boat. Also, if the boat has saturated foam, it will weigh a lot more than you may think.

You could have a welder beef up the trailer so that it can handle the load. that may be your least cost option.

ok so new trailer is out, post pics from the side of the boat from front to rear, I also need to know how far off the back of the trailer is the transom, or do the bunks meet the transom.

I don't know which way to go yet,

If the boat is set back properly then you only have one choice, upgrade axles and leaf springs, and weld in a tongue and main spanner and move your winch to the new welded in section.

If the boat needs to move forward my opinion would depend on how much forward, you could add a third axle in front of the other two with the same weight rating which would simply add capacity but triples are tough on tires and I think I would simply upgrade to heavier axles and leafs and relocate them forward, then I would probably reverse the winch stand and the roller setup.

I don't see why not, I would check with your bank or credit union, I think that MA requires trailers to be licensed and titled so why wouldn't you be able to get a loan for one?

lol my credit kinda sucks i was just to get a car loan..... i mean the trailer is really nice and all but i dont think i am the right person to upgrade and plus the guy said that the axles or the springs or both has been upgraded to 8000... my only problem is that if i move the boat about another 6 inch the trailer will just bend to the floor.... i will make a video tomorrow if i can of thw whole trailer bunks and frame

well the gorilla on your back is you don't really know exactly how much your boat weighs, so no matter what we do were shooting in the dark, someone is not correct, if the trailer is rated at 5000 lbs then your boat is a pretty fat 4800, my bet is that the trailer may be a 5000 lbs trailer but your boat is well over 5000 lbs, just a gut feeling I have.

sorry i thought it was 4800 but nada says its 4140 and i know with age the but puts some pounds on but all i added was a flat screen tv... thing is i always had a box fram but this fram looks like a c fram so is it supposed to bend??? what i think i need is for someone to come and look at it and tell me if its safe for the road... the ramp is about 15 mins to the river and about 40 mins to the ocean....

Re: please i need help with trailer ?

no your missing the biggest factor with older boats and that is water in the floatation, under your boats floor/deck is open spaces, most of the time boat manufacturers fill these areas with foam, when the foam is new it can easily shed water, but as it ages it becomes a huge sponge and it is nearly impossible to completely dry it out so that is what I think you need to focus on, it is the single biggest issue with older boats. A boat your size could easily be 1000 lbs overweight with just water in your floatation. I don't disagree with your ideology with C channel steel, it is not as strong as box steel, but like I said you really need to get an idea of how much your boat weighs if your going to get a decent trailer for it you know? can you borrow a friends trailer for a day and get it weighed then load your boat and weigh it again?

The boat appears to be positioned properly at the stern. As buying a new trailer is not in the cards, have you tried craigslist or local marinas for a trailer exchange. Someone out there may have a trailer that is too big for their boat.
Do you know a competent welder. Adding 1/8" plate tacked to the inside of the frame and boxed in with 1/8" plate will take all the bounce out fo the frame. Have the winch moved back at the same time.
