bubbakat,

The ignition system on these engines was designed to fire the surface gap spark plugs, Champion L-77V (or L-76V) or NGK BUHW. Trying to run normal gap type plugs will probably cause more problems than it will solve.

What's the reason for you wanting to try gap type plugs?

Chris.............
To see if that was what was causing a throttle problem. Will not power up just boggs down.

Have tested all electral and rebuilt carbs.
Now am trying different plugs.
Achris, I too would like to run gap-type plugs in my '77 150HP inline 6. I believe them to be more foul resistant than the surface gap plugs. Has there ever been a cross match done?
I got it to throttling up. Found out it was the carb adjustments but was thinking along the lines of not enough current going to the surface gap plugs. Was gonna try the gap type to see if that helped but decided to try adjusting carbs one more time and it hit the sweet spot so now WOT without any problems.
